Harry Potter Actors

One of the most successful movie franchises is undoubtedly Harry Potter. Adapted from the book series by J.K. Rowling, the Harry Potter actors have brought the stories of wizardry to life for all the devoted fans. The great and the good of the British acting scene longed to land a part. The casting choices have been excellent and introduced a worldwide audience to three young actors who have grown up on the sets.

The principle part, of course, is Harry himself. The role went to Daniel Radcliffe and he has taken the character to maturity with great skill. Radcliffe had limited acting experience but had portrayed the young David Copperfield in a BBC television adaptation of the Dickens classic in 1999. He will always be known as the Harry Potter actor but has looked beyond the Potter films and taken on other roles, gaining good reviews for his stage performance in Equus.

Rupert Grint seems born to play Ron Weasley, the ginger haired best friend of Harry. His acting background before Potter was in school plays and local stage productions. He too has gained experience in other roles away from Hogwarts. He appeared in the British comedy film, Thunderpants with Simon Callow and Stephen Fry and also in Driving Lessons, co-starring Julie Walters and Laura Linney.

The third starring role of Hermione Granger went to Emma Watson, more perfect casting as the class swot. She had previously acted in school plays. In between Potter films, she is also a young Harry Potter actor who has looked to the future. She co-starred in a TV movie version of Ballet Shoes, set in the 1930s, with Richard Griffiths and has voiced the character of Princess Pea in the animated film, The Tale of Despereaux, scheduled for release in December 2008.

The movies have been blessed with a list of experienced actors and actresses to support the three leads. Every Harry Potter actor has brought his or her character to vivid life. Ralph Fiennes is wonderfully sinister in the role of Lord Voldemort. A Shakespearian actor, he is also feted for his performances in Schindler's List and The English Patient.

The part of the headmaster, Albus Dumbledore has been shared. Richard Harris portrayed him in the first two films but tragically died, resulting in Michael Gambon stepping in. Gary Oldman was cast as Harry's Godfather, Sirius Black, bringing a lot of panache to the role. One of the most inspired choices for a Harry Potter actor was Robbie Coltrane as Hagrid. He personifies the big-hearted nature of the gamekeeper.

Summary: Harry Potter actors and actresses are Daniel Ratcliffe as Harry Potter, Ron Weasley as Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson as Hermione Granger. The role of headmaster has been played by the late Richard Harris and Michael Gambon. Most popular is Robbie Coltrane who plays Hagrid.
